”DOOMSCROLLING & DHAMMA”

This is a recording of a dharma talk I gave on Feb. 4, 2024 at the Northfield Buddhist Meditation Center in Northfield, MN.

The talk’s main theme:

"Doomscrolling" is a modern name for the same mental habit of suffering the Buddha describes, while also offering a path to its release.

The sub-topics include:

•  Is Buddhism today counter-cultural enough? After all, the Buddha says his path "goes against the stream," including the powerful stream of cultural conditioning that sustains the mentality of human suffering.
•  The psychological role of "bhaya" or "fear" in doomscrolling
•  Doomscrolling is spiritual bypassing
•  Radiant goodwill—AKA metta—ends the otherwise endless mental scrolling through fears.

We had a lively Q&A too.

With metta 🙏☀️
