CALLING FOR SUPPORT – MYANMAR EARTHQUAKE RELIEF AID

Dear Friends,

The *depth of generosity* depends on the information that reaches our minds. The collection to support earthquake victims in Myanmar is no different. Consider these realities:

🔹1.⁠ ⁠In Sagaing Hill, temperatures are soaring between 38-40°C. With most buildings flattened, there is little to no shelter. Monks and laypeople alike are living in the open, exposed to the relentless heat.

🔹2.⁠ ⁠Almost 600 fatalities were reported by a rescue worker and 90 percent of structures were destroyed. Much of the Ava Bridge collapsed. The city's fire station also collapsed, hampering relief efforts and trapping many. Several monastic schools and a nunnery in the city were also damaged, likely killing people in the hundreds and trapping over 900 monks across four schools.

🔹3.⁠ ⁠Myanmar’s ongoing political instability had already left many in hardship. Now, with the earthquake’s devastation, the scarcity of shelter, food, water, and healthcare makes survival even more precarious.

🔹4.⁠ ⁠According to the latest international news, the stench of decaying bodies grows stronger by the day. Rescue efforts are hampered by a severe lack of tools, machinery, and accessible roads, preventing aid from reaching victims in time.

Your awareness of these realities shapes the depth of your generosity. While we may not be there to offer our hands, we trust that through our donations, our Teacher, Sayadaw U Tejaniya—who is currently residing in Myanmar—will do his utmost to reach and support the earthquake victims—easing their suffering before it worsens with each passing day without aid.

Sayadaw U Tejaniya responded to our invitation after we reached out, saying he wished to aid those in Sagaing Hill, home to many renowned temples that provide teachings to novices and monks.

We understand that many centers are collecting donations, and you may have already given. Yet, in the spirit of reality—where every moment is new and each new moment presents the potential for dana—may we see this as another opportunity to perfect our dana parami (perfections of generosity), paving the way for deeper realizations and, in time, the final attainment of enlightenment.
